Today I talked about this guy who has a jet back winged craft...here is a picture of what it looks like.

Swiss adventurer Yves Rossy will try to cross the English Channel using his homemade jet-propelled wing Friday, a day after the thrill-seeking pilot canceled his attempt due to bad weather, organizers said.

A long time: The New Breakfast Blend
It's been a while since I've written something. Moving and settling in here at school has kept me pretty busy. With the beginning of the new year brings a "revamped" Breakfast Blend.

All shows are from 6:00AM to 9:00AM (one hour shorter than before). The main difference between the summer and now will be the format of each day. Monday, Wednesday, Friday I have class at 9:00 so I will be naming off the "Top 5 at 9". This feature is where I will name off the top 5 requested songs here at the Globe and play them for you. Every Tuesday and Thursday I do not have a class at 9:00. This is great for you because I am able to give stuff away! So every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:40AM I will be either giving away a CD or two or tickets to a show!

That's about it, but I hope you love the new show and remember to call in with all your requests!

Peace and Rock Life!

Solar Powered Air!
A company called GreenCore Air has released an air conditioner than can be powered by a single 170 watt solar panel. The GreenCore air conditioning unit can heat and cool a 600 square foot room. It runs on DC power, so there is no need to put an AC inverter between the solar panel and the air conditioner. This eliminates the power losses associated with converting AC to DC.

When the sun is not out the unit runs on the battery bank which is integrated within the unit.

There two version of the air conditioner: a fixed one, and a mobile one that is mounted on wheels!

To be quite honest my family has never had the privilege of owning an air conditioner. So, maybe the best way to conserve energy is enduring the heat. However, that can be a hard task. The best alternative is this solar powered air conditioner. Stay Cool!

John Mellencamp announces Farm Aid during his concert
Farm Aid, the long-running benefit concert, will be held this year in New England for the first time.

John Mellencamp held a news conference in Boston on Tuesday to announce that the show will be held September 20th at the Comcast Center in Mansfield.

Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Neil Young and Dave Matthews will headline the concert, and more performers will be announced later.

Farm Aid executive director Carolyn Mugar says organizers have long wanted to have a show in New England to highlight the region's agriculture. The organization is based in the Boston suburb of Somerville.

Farm Aid, which held its first concert in 1985 and has raised more than $30 million, supports family farms.

Arist Spotlight : The Bravery
The Bravery is one of my all time favorite bands. However I wasn't introduced to them until after their second studio album was released. The Sun and The Moon Photobucket In June 2006, after months of writing and demoing at their home studios in New York City, the Bravery moved to Atlanta, to work with producer Brendan O’Brien,. Brendan’s resume included Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Neil Young, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Velvet Revolver. The band’s original concept of their new album was to show the 2 sides of the band. One being "The Sun," a more organic approach of production using acoustic instruments. The other being "The Moon," a do it yourself indie dance production, reminiscent of their debut album. The idea was to release 2 discs of the exact same songs done in different ways "The Sun" and "The Moon." Photobucket The songs for the "Sun" portion were finished and mastered by November of 2006. The band played a limited number of small shows on the US East Coast and in South America including a few secret shows under the name "Wyld Stallyons" to showcase new material from their 2nd album, The Sun and the Moon. After road testing the songs, The Bravery went back to Atlanta in January 2007 to re-track and re-mix some of the songs. While on the road, The Bravery continued working on "The Moon" recording on the back of their tour bus, in hotels and dressing rooms. In December 2007, The Bravery headed back into their New York City home studios to finish up their more raw and electronic version of the songs. Photobucket Some may say that The Bravery is a rip off of The Killers. But I, however, would beg to differ. They have truly unique sound that will hook you from the start. This album is one of the only albums I can listen to all the way through and love every song!

Adopt-A-Pet: Meet Jerry
Today on my show I talked about Jerry a lovely little kitten about a year old in age. I believe that it is very important to adopt your pets. Why? Because every year thousands of animals are "put to sleep" because they are not given a home. This is where you come in! To prevent this from happening all you need to do is adopt a pet today....like Jerry! Jerry is a very loving and talkative male American Bobtail/Norwegian Forest Cat Mix who is looking for a family to complete him. He has a cute stub of a tail that is the source of his sweet-talking charm. He follows you about the house telling you all the news of the day. Jerry is very playful and his age is estimated to be 1 year or less. He is a great companion cat and does well meeting new animals. He is adjusting to his new foster home and has a wonderful temperament. Jerry is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and has been micro chipped. You can call the South Bend Animal Care and Control Center at 574-235-9303 or email info@pawsnpurrs.org for more information about this fine kitty who will have you at hello. Jerry

How to tell if a product is really green?
When you’re buying green products for your home, checking the label isn’t enough, consumer advocates say. It’s better to check for third-party certification. Some common ones: • Designed for the Environment – Introduced by the US Envir onmental Protection Agency (EPA) to indicate that products contain environmentally preferable ingredients. • Green Seal – Aims to reduce the environmental impacts tied to the use, manufacture, and disposal of products and services. • Energy Star – An EPA certification whose goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. • Water Sense – It certifies water-efficient products such as faucets and toilets. • Forest Stewardship Council – Products that bear the FSC logo are guaranteed to contain wood or wood products harvested from a certified, well-managed forest. • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) – Promotes sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, sustainable materials selection, and indoor environmental quality

To Save Our Home

What are you supposed to do with your old cell phones and other electronics? For me it's easy: I just send my old cell phone back to my provider and they take care of it for me. However, it might not be that easy for you and your cell phone. Oh and what do you do with your old PDA's, ink cartridges, ipods? Yeah, good question. Not to worry, there's a way to get rid of your old electronics and help save our home (Earth). USPS offers plastic bags to send out your old cell phones, PDA’s, digital cameras, ink cartridges and ipods for recycling. The best thing about the program is that it’s completely free, not to so mention easy. All you have to do is put the item in the plastic bag, and put it in the nearest mailbox. It will be picked up just like a letter. AMAZING! When I was researching this I began to wonder, where does my cell phone then go? Well, our old electronics are then sent to a company in California called Clover Technologies Group. They then break down the equipment to be repackaged and eventually, will be reused. So instead of letting your old cell phone collect dust in the basement, put them to better use and help the environment at the same time. You can always say up-to-date with my blog by going to http://www.myspace.com/911theglobe which is The Globe's Myspace
